Taking vitamins can cause cataract

Vitamins are basically healthy. However, if consumed in excess, vitamins can increase the risk of cataracts.

Researchers say excessive levels of vitamin E at least 60 percent trigger risk of cataracts. Vitamin C also increases the risk of blindness in the eye by 20 percent if taken too much.
Supplements of vitamins C and E had been thought capable of protecting the eyes from cataracts and blindness because they are rich in antioxidants. But if consumed excessively, the balance of protein in the eye is disrupted and causes disease.

As reported by the Daily Mail (25/02), the human body can not produce or store vitamin C. The source only comes from fruits and vegetables a total of 40 milligrams a day. Usefulness is to maintain healthy cells and accelerate healing.

Researchers also suggested that the public watch their vitamin supplements consumption. Do not let the tablets contain more than the daily advice from experts.

Don’t let Glaucoma disrupt your vision

Glaucoma is a menace that may lead to a permanent loss of eyesight, and a person may not even know when the symptoms actually began.
Glaucoma is a disorder that damages the optic nerve of the eye and may lead to permanent loss of eyesight.

While in some people, the disease shows with symptoms like redness in eyes, pain and blurry vision, appearance of halos around lights, nausea and vomiting, the more common variety of glaucoma is the silent type (Chronic Open angle Glaucoma) in which the patient is totally asymptomatic and is even unaware of his gradual loss of vision.

As the World Glaucoma Week is observed internationally from March 10 to 16, doctors are urging people to keep a tab on the condition of their eyes and get periodical check-ups done.

Besides the regular eye check-up for vision, what a person needs to get done is a comprehensive eye examination as well.

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases characterized by damage to the optic nerve. A healthy eye produces a fluid, called aqueous humor, at the same rate at which it drains. High pressure occurs when the drainage system is blocked and the fluid cannot exit at a normal rate. Unlike a ball or a balloon, the eye cannot relieve pressure by springing a leak and "deflating" when pressure is too high. The high eye pressure instead keeps building and pushing against the optic nerve which is responsible for vision. The extreme pressure can permanently damage the nerve fibers leading to loss of vision.

Since few glaucoma patients experience its symptoms from the beginning, early detection of the disease is generally difficult. Doctors suggest that the only way to prevent this blinding disease is a regular and through check-up of the eyes.

Since reversing the disease is not possible, the doctors say that one should not wait for these symptoms to crop up to get a check-up done. Small efforts like getting a thorough check-up done every time you change your spectacles can make a big difference in early detection of the disease and save you from its catastrophic effects.

Protect Your Eyes From Computer Radiation

Eye fatigue is often experienced by many people when they are using computers every day. Staring at a computer constantly can make eyes dry, especially in rooms with air conditioning.
Researchers have found an easy way to cope with tired eyes from too long looking at a computer, which they call a ‘20-20-20-20’ strategy, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The trick is to blink 20 times for 20 minutes. Then keep the view of the computer for 20 seconds and focus the view on an object that is 20 feet or about six feet.

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is characterized by dry eyes and fatigue, headache, stiff neck and muscle. This is usually a temporary problem, but it can be very annoying when it happens every day.
Those with the highest risk are people who spend more than three hours in front of a computer. CVS can be very annoying and painful, as well as making myopic eyes.

People who spend a lot of time in front of the computer are at risk. However, a higher risk is in employees, because currently most offices have air conditioning, which make the room dry and cold. Air conditioning that is comfortable for the body, has a negative effect on the eyes.
All the people who spend a lot of time in front of computers, especially employees sh
ould use these 20-20-20-20 strategies every day. Using eye drops before work is also recommended, but it’s better if you frequently look away from the computer.
