EyeFacts

It’s important to stay up to date on eye health information, especially because some eye conditions like Glaucoma have no symptoms.  As an adult, you might ask yourself, “Why get an eye exam?” Getting an annual eye exam can easily be forgotten, especially with work, family and other obligations.  Make sure you set a reminder in your smartphone or pencil it in to your calendar to get a regular eye exam every year.

Why Do My Eyes Twitch?

eyes TwitchWhy do my eyes twitch? We’ve all had this happen at one point or another.  Maybe you stayed up late studying or perhaps you stared at your computer for hours on end.

Eye twitching is also known as an eye muscle spasm or involuntary eyelid twitching.  The technical terms for eye twitching include Blepharospasm or Myokmia in case you like knowing fun facts like that! Blepharospasm is defined as any uncontrolled eyelid twitching caused by muscle contractions around the eyes.

Eye twitching can occur under the eye or in the upper eyelid and it can affect the right or left eye.  Eye twitching causes include Benign Essential Blepharospasm (which isn’t harmful), dry eyes, Tourette’s syndrome and strained eyes. Eye twitching should not be confused with drooping eyes which requires serious medical attention as soon as possible.

Keep your eyes hydrated and healthy can definitely help ward off eye twitching.  Eye twitching is also a genetic trait that can run in families or it can be caused by certain types of medication.

Taking good care of your eyes is extremely important, so if you’re experiencing an eye twitch that lasts more than seven days, results in your eye being permanently shut, moves into your entire face, causes redness or swelling and/or changes into a drooping eyelid, contact your Optometrist right away.  Please feel free to contact our in-house 20/20 Eyeglass Superstore Optometrist who will be more than happy to see you as soon as possible. -

Reasons for Having Eyes Examined Annually

Some other reasons for having eyes examined annuallyOur eyes are very delicate organs, and we should plan routine eye exams whether or not we notice any problems.
Some other reasons for having eyes examined annually are:
  1. Myopia: short-sightedness, or the inability to see things at a distance
  2. Hyperopia: far-sightedness, or the inability to see things at close distances
  3. Eyeglass prescription changes occur every 1 to 2 years
  4. Presbyopia: the inability to see things at near after the age of 40 years
  5. Contact lens wearers are at greater risk of eye infections and corneal ulcers
  6. It is important that your vision meets certain legal standards for driving and certain occupations.
By getting your eyes checked regularly, you’ll be able to keep them healthy your whole life. Neglect can be costly!

Tips for Applying Eye Cosmetics Safely

Tips for Applying Eye Cosmetics SafelyIt's also important to apply your eye makeup safely to help prevent injury. Getting anything that close to your eye can potentially cause damage — so when you're painstakingly drawing that perfect line, take care not to get the cosmetics in your eye.
Here at 20/20 Eyeglass Superstore, we’re in the business of connecting customers with the perfect pair of eyeglasses, sunglasses and/or contact lenses. Additionally, we love teaching people about proper eye care and tips.

Try these eye cosmetic safety suggestions:
  • Never put your eye cosmetics on while you're driving or riding in a car. Your mascara wand can all too easily scratch your cornea — not to mention the risks of inattentive driving. You may also want to avoid applying eye makeup on buses or subways – sudden stops can also increase the risk that you'll scratch your eye.
  • Skip eye cosmetics when you've got an irritated or infected eye — and if you think that a particular cosmetic is irritating your eyes, stop using it right away.
  • Keep eye cosmetics outside of your eye — don't use eyeliner on the inner eyelids, where makeup can get inside your eye.
  • Always wash your hands before you dig into your makeup bag and start applying eye cosmetics.
  • Avoid eye cosmetics that are iridescent, glittery, or shiny, as they may contain ingredients that could scratch or irritate the eye.
  • Make sure that all eye cosmetic applicators are clean before you use them — it's a good idea to wash or replace all brushes and sponges frequently.
We hope you enjoyed our four tips on applying eye cosmetics safely. Drop in at 20/20 Eyeglass Orangecity Making a budget, updating your prescription, taking care of your eyeglasses and doing your research are great ways to stay on plan!
